Did we call you about an estimate?
Yes, we are a real company, and no, we are not selling anything.
A contractor you asked for an estimate hired us to find out what happened to it. We don't work for them, we're not their sales team, and we get paid the same whatever you tell us.
Why you, and why now
You asked a contractor for a price on a job, and you didn't go ahead with them. They don't know why. Most homeowners are too polite to say, so contractors guess — usually that it was the price — and they're often wrong.
They hired us to ask you instead. That's the whole job.
What we asked you
Five questions, and they take about five minutes:
- What you thought when you opened the estimate
- What you did instead
- How the contractor you chose was different
- What the estimate itself got right or wrong
- What would have changed your mind
What we never do
- We never ask you for a review. Not on the call, not afterwards, not ever.
- We never try to reopen the sale. We don't quote, we don't discount, and we don't argue with your decision.
- We don't send text messages, ever. If you got a text claiming to be us, it wasn't.
- We never sell your information or add you to a marketing list.
- We call from our own number, not the contractor's. If a call claims to be us but comes from the contractor's line, it isn't us.
What the contractor actually sees
They get the reasons, not you. Your name, your address, your phone number and the amount you were quoted are taken out before anything reaches them, and they are never told who said what.
They never get the recording. That isn't a policy we could quietly change — the recording is deleted at the phone company within 72 hours, before any report is written.
If you said on the call that you'd like to hear from the contractor again, then and only then do we pass your name back to them. If you said no, or we never asked, nothing is passed on. A no is permanent.
About the recording
If a call is being recorded, our caller tells you at the start of the call, and you can end the call at any point. The recording is deleted at the phone company within 72 hours. What we keep is the written record of what you said.
How often we call
Three attempts at most, then we stop. There is no fourth. We call between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM Central time, and on a Sunday never before noon.
What happens to what you told us
Two things, and nothing else.
The first is the report your contractor gets — the reasons, without you attached to them. Everything we hold about you is deleted within 30 days after that report is delivered.
The second is research about how remodeling jobs are won and lost, across many homeowners and many companies. We publish nothing drawn from fewer than 25 conversations across at least five different companies, and nothing that could be traced back to one person or one business.
You choose where a donation goes
Every homeowner who finishes an interview with us picks a charity, and we donate to it on your behalf. You can see every donation we've made — it's a public record, updated each quarter after the money is sent.
If something wasn't right
If our caller argued with you, pushed you, suggested an answer to you, or said anything that doesn't match this page, we want to know. Email hello@getcloseoutcall.com and it reaches a person. An interview that breaks our own standard gets thrown out — the contractor doesn't get it and doesn't get told why.
